Question: Can you provide a readout of Under Secretary Burns’ meeting with the Australian Foreign Secretary and Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister?
Answer: Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns held the latest round of the Trilateral Strategic Dialogue (TSD) July 2 with Australian Foreign Secretary Michael L’Estrange and Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka. The TSD brings together the United States, Australia, and Japan to cooperate on issues of common concern.
The July 2 talks were useful and productive and covered a broad range of global and strategic issues, including developments in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. The three sides also discussed efforts to enhance trilateral cooperation in areas such as counterterrorism; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; and security and defense.
